Leadership; a proactive individual. .

LEADERSHIP IS A VERB NOT A NOUN

I would rather quote one of my good friend in the world of life coaching, Sesan Kareem a full potential coach who would always say leadership is not a noun but a verb...an action, a proactive individual..

More often than not, people think that leadership is all about POSITION or TITLE, but leadership is all about positive INFLUENCE. Leadership is a verb not a noun. In an organization, the real leader may not be the Managing Director

, it may be one of the managers and sometimes one of the junior staff.

Let me explain further, the two major functions of leaders are

1. SOLVING PROBLEMS
2. MAXIMIZING RESOURCES.

In business, in politics, in religion, in sport, in a family, success lies with leadership ability to solve problems and maximize resources.

What really makes a business solid? The Management (The leadership of the organization) The right management can turn a GOOD company to a GREAT company in few years. The wrong management can turn a GREAT company into bankruptcy in months (I've you heard of lily's brothers before?) The right leaders can turn an underdeveloped country into a developed nation (UAE, Malaysia, China are few examples) The wrong leaders can make a RICH nation in terms of human and materials resources POOR (Nigeria as a case study)

The right leaders (Parents) will make a family GREAT.....

REAL Leaders solve problems and maximise resources. PERIOD.

Whenever I listened to Mr. President and some of his team members complaining and reminding us about our problems, I just smile. We all knew our problems and that was why we voted them in to solve them. True leadership is DOING; getting results, solving problems, maximizing scarce resources. True leadership is a VERB not title, position, complaining and stagnation. True leadership is not a NOUN

The good news about leadership is, it is a SKILL, and we can all develop SKILLS. There are qualities of GOOD leaders we can all develop. Until Nigeria makes leadership training part of our curriculum from primary school and trains our teachers on leadership as an integral part of the Teachers Training College we will still have a long way to go. The root cause of our problem is leadership failure. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been blessed to be in a leadership position at a very tough time. We were able to solve all our problems as a group and maximise our resources (it's on record that we run our administration without collecting due) That is what leadership is all about ; solving problems and maximizing resources.
